Blog / Elopement wedding photography in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

This is a fab example of really beautiful, intimate elopement wedding photography.  This amazing elopement took place in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, such a gorgeous town close to where I live.  I really do love to shoot weddings there.  The lovely bride Debbie got ready at the magnificent Angel Hotel in the center of Bury St Edmunds.

As Debbie got ready, Martin and one of their sons relaxed at a near by cafe, before heading to the wonderful Athenaeum for the ceremony.  The couple were kept apart while they spoke to registras and waited for the big moment.  I love the shot I captured of them in separate spaces, waiting to see each other.

The ceremony was so emotional.  There is really something incredible about people who have been together for a large part of their lives, and then they decide to get married.  It just seems to bring a sense of new love and passion that is such a joy to witness.

Debbie and Martin had decided to tell no one about their imminent wedding day, choosing instead to elope.  Just them and their grown up sons.  Often people get overwhelmed with the planning and cost that can go into a more traditional wedding.  Perhaps family situations are complicated or just budgets tight.  So an elopement can be just the right thing.  I personally love them and adore shooting elopement wedding photography!  It’s so intimate and the atmosphere always electric.  I can’t pretend to know how it would feel to be a close friend or relative who’s not at the wedding, but I like to think I’d be super excited for them, and I’d certainly look forward to celebrating with the couple as soon as an opportunity arose!

After the ceremony we took advantage of the incredible back drop of the Athenaeum, before heading over to the wonderful Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds.  Stunning flower gardens, rose gardens and lawns gave us plenty of opportunity to catch some lovely natural, relaxed couples portraits as well as some family shots of the four of them together.

Back to the Angel hotel for a lovely dinner, and that was me done!  Fabulous memories captured of a wonderful day.  I hear that all family and friends were extremely surprised and elated for the couple, and I think parties were in the planning straight away!

If you’re looking for elopement wedding photography, or your planning on getting married in Bury St Edmunds, then please do get in touch as I’d love to get involved. Thanks so much.
