Blog / A Winter Wedding {Cambridge Union Society}

In between Christmas and New Year I had the honor of photographing the wedding of the wonderful Beth and Jon.  The ceremony took place at Saint Andrews Church Stapleford, and we then all hopped onto a coach to the truly fabulous venue of the Cambridge Union Society.

It was a real joy photographing this lovely couple.  I started at Beth’s family home, and I have to say, a more relaxed bride I don’t think I have ever photographed!  And her dress….well, it was utterly stunning in beautiful silver with amazingly intricate detailing, and Beth just looked astonishing in it.

The rain was on and off, but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirit of the day.  The bride and groom and all the guests were great sports, and we managed to do some (damp!) confetti throwing pictures as we left the church.

I was so pleased to be photographing at The Cambridge Union Society. I’m discovering more and more amazing venues around Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex, and this was an absolute corker.  The history of the the building is immense, and the array of diverse people who have been through it’s doors speaking at debates made me feel rather in awe of the place.  Add to that stunning rooms such as the library and the magnificent staircases and the balcony, which were all perfect for photographs, I was in my element.  It was a little daunting initially when we had discussed our plans for photographs.  I usually use daylight and outdoor spaces predominantly for couples portraits, but as it was winter, and we wouldn’t be getting to the venue until dusk, plus there not really being many outdoor options that were right for what we wanted, I needed to shoot everything indoors.  But what a joy this was.  I love the different photographs that have been achieved with low light and the available light within the building. Beth and Joh were amazing to photograph anyway, so relaxed and happy just to be together and to relax into having their special time together and letting me snap away.  I’m really pleased with the results and I think the images represent them and their day really well.

The speeches were fabulous, what a wonderful couple they are and what great friends and family they had with them on their day.  Also the first dance and the band were superb!  What a treat!  What an amazing day!  Thanks so much for involving me in your wonderful wedding day.  It was perfect. x
