It really is a thrill to be asked back to photograph a family. It means that, you know, I must have done alright last time! And how wonderful to see a family grow and change. A year passes so fast, and with your own family, it’s hard to notice the changes and how much they have grown. So to see people after a year, is really wonderful. And when one of the children wasn’t born before, it’s even more special!
I had the honor to photograph this lovely family in Kedington, Suffolk a year ago, when there was a second baby imminent. And in January I was invited back to capture the now family of four.
They chose a mini session, which is 45 minutes long and includes two digital files. I find 45 minutes is just enough time for a session like this, and very little children can often have enough after this time. It is of course lovely to do two hour sessions, as you get more of a “day in the life” feel, and more options. But a mini session can produce some lovely moments too.
We started at home, and with the littlest one feeling unwell, we worked fast and let her do what she felt happiest with. Some playing and stories, then we wrapped up warm to get some fresh air. A short stroll to the local park and the swings and slide provide a lovely distraction, and the opportunity to capture some really fun, relaxed documentary family photographs.
I love the little expressions and moments that we caught. These really are the days and these moments go so fast.
Thanks for having me with you once again. Here’s to next year! x
